Mijas - Spain

Mijas

Mijas Pueblo is situated high on the mountain above Fuengirola and Mijas Costa. Forest and mountains surrounds Mijas Pueblo, which is now like a small, typical Spanish but international, town that has great views of the Costa del Sol and the Mediterranean coast.

Mijas Pueblo is now very international, but still keeps the village's original characteristics. Now as tourist attractions, like the "Donkey Taxis" that are on all Mijas postcards. Mijas Pueblo's appearance is still that of a genuine Andalusian mountain village, but around Mijas modern residential areas, golf courses and hotel has been built, and more is coming!

In Mijas Pueblo the small whitewashed Andalusian houses, narrow streets and alleys are perfect for walking. Mijas is a popular excursion from the coastal towns along the Costa del Sol.

Mijas Pueblo was discovered by the first tourists in the 60s and since then people from around 101 different countries have settled there. Now, far over 75 percent of the residents in Mijas are not Spaniards. That is easy see while the many restaurants of all nationalities offers menus from all over the world.

Mijas is the perfect place for souvenir shopping. Many of the shops in Mijas sells original artwork, local handicrafts, and of course, all the usual souvenirs.

Mijas municipality is one of the largest coastal municipalities in the Province of Malaga. Popular resorts along the coast like Mijas Costa, Calahonda, La Cala, Calaburras and Elviria belongs to the municipality of Mijas.

Fuengirola and Mijas were one municipality earlier. Now the limit between the two municipalities is in the middle of Fuengirola, and the constant fuss between the two city's mayors give everyday life in the area a little spice. In reality, it is impossible to distinguish the two municipalities with the actual limits, because they have grown together.

As a holiday resort Mijas Pueblo is a bit distant from the beach on the Costa del Sol for those who dream of sandy beach and the warm Mediterranean Sea, but it is not a problem if you rent a car. Golf tourists will find many fine golf courses near Mijas.
