Value Conscious Tourists Take a Serious Look at the Balearics This Summer

With family budgets tighter than ever, tourists are looking to get the best value for money out of their holidays this summer and the Balearic Islands offer great value

Whilst expensive holidays to faraway places are struggling to sell this year, tourists are looking anew at traditional destinations that offer something a little different. Whilst mainland Spain struggles to attract even the budget conscious traveller this year, pretty Minorca is faring much better. Rhinocarhire.com report that reservations for car hire Minorca are showing an average increase of 15% over last year as visitors combine cheap flights with low cost accommodation and are taking advantage of cheap car hire at Minorca Airport to enable them to see more of the island as well as get them to where they’re staying.

Traditionally the choice of older travellers, Minorca has seen a swing towards families and couples drawn by the history of the island that was briefly a British possession, the beautiful and often near deserted beaches and the wonderful unspoilt scenery.

Phil Partridge, marketing manager at Rhino comments, ‘Minorca has strong demand throughout the year with many tourists drawn to the island in springtime to witness the beautiful flower strewn landscape. Summer naturally draws the families during the school holidays and the constant and growing demand for holidays in Minorca means that pre-booking hire cars is essential if you’re to get the car you need. This is especially important for larger families who may need people carriers which we offer through our website.’

Vehicle rental rates are especially competitive at the moment for the island of Minorca in line with excellent rates for car hire in Spain in general. Currently a week’s hire is available from under £6 per day.

*Prices based on 7 days rental of mini class vehicle during March 2012 - prices correct at time of going to press and subject to availability.
