Two of the UK’s holiday giants are now adding fuel surcharges to their holiday prices. Two of the UK’s holiday giants are now adding fuel surcharges to their holiday prices to combat the rise in fuel costs. Both Thomas Cook and Thomson are planning to add up top £25 per person for holidays to European destinations such as Greece and Spain. This is likely to have an impact on cash starved holiday makers who are looking to book family holidays and are already struggling with costs due to the poor economic climate the credit crunch has put upon us.
It is not yet known if the crisis in Japan will impact the holiday market further as fuel costs rise to cover the shortage on Japan while their Nuclear reactors are repaired.
A spokesman for offer site Mega.co.uk said “the decision to add further to the price of family holidays is unfortunate although with oil prices at an all time high the travel firms have little choice as they need to protect their already slim margins. We expect to see a rise in our travel discount code searches as people use offers like our Alpharooms discount code to reduce their travel costs.”
Supplements on flights are likely to be from £15 to £40 per person depending on the distance you travel, this is less than British Airways expect to charge but is still likely to cost a family of four an additional £100 on the price of their holiday.
This is expected to be great for the UK holiday market as people may choose to stay at home but for the Greek travel market which is already struggling this news could not come at a worse time.
