The location The quality of the location, the magic of the sunsets witnessed by the Island of La Gomera, the grandeur of Mt. Teide, the exceptional climate, unique in Europe, (we are in the lee of the highest mountain in Spain) mean that there are few places as right as this for building a grand hotel.
Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora is located on the south west coast of the island of Tenerife, right down on the beach front, just 35 minutes from the Reina Sofia Tenerife South International Airport, and 90 minutes from the island capital, Santa Cruz, and a mere 40 minutes from the Las Cañadas del Teide National Park, where you will find the highest peak in Spain.
The climate is perfect – eternal spring – with average annual temperatures of 21 degrees and an average of 335 days of sunshine and good weather a year, according to information provided by the Tenerife Weather Centre.
The design Álvaro Sans, Sol Meliá’s prestigious architect, has chosen a design that is in harmony with the climate and the local architecture. As a whole, it is a contemporary building but with conventional colonial elements of the Canary Islands that help to create a spectacular hotel that is fully integrated with both its natural and cultural surroundings. The gentle slope of the terrain means that the project has been designed as a grand amphitheatre overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The design premise was none other than to create a palace opening onto the sea. To this end, an in-depth study was conducted of Canary Island architecture, its proportions, the importance of courtyards and squares, integrating the gardens into the architecture and the shapes of tiled roofs. The final design includes towers to break the monotony of large buildings, and a gentle range of colours on the facades that blend harmoniously with the environment. The result is the Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora, more than a hotel; it is a palace in which each and every space has been designed for guests to find themselves in perfect harmony. The resort receives guests with a silver dome that has a spectacular sculpture of silver fish hanging from it, floating in the open space of a monumental square offering views of the sea and of La Gomera.
La Plaza Atlántica is the heart of the hotel, the place to meet and it is undoubtedly the most spectacular space of the hotel, with modern sculptures and a set of pools and fountains that is unique in the Canary Islands. The square opens on to a look out spot from where you can appreciate the magnitude of the venue, the generosity of its spaces and the sensation of being in the sea.
The rest of the Palacio is a succession of magic spaces, where architecture and landscape blend with the water of the numerous and spectacular pools, with the works of art, with the details of the avant-garde decoration of the interior areas, with the incomparable light and colour of Tenerife.
